JOBS @ BLC

BLC provides small group and one-on-one tutoring for students K-12 in all subjects. We are looking for highly talented tutors who can relate to the students and enthusiastically motivate them to succeed. Tutors need a strong grasp of the subject matter, and must enjoy interacting with people and lastly; they must be open to feedback. We are a staff of nearly 20, making us one of the largest employers of UC Merced students and Alumni.

Job 1:Tutor

Work with K-12 students in 1-on-1 and small group setting. You will focus on concepts, retention, speed and accuracy, homework completion, and test prep. Tutors act as teachers and role models to the students.

Tutor (1-on-1 and group) Responsibilities:

• Work with students to improve their understanding
• Connect with the students and motivate them to excel
• Be a supportive member of Team BLC
• Math is in very high demand
  
  Requirements:

• 3.0 GPA
• Confidence in teaching math or reading
• Good communication and social skills
• Enthusiastic about a challenge
• Does not get frustrated in any situation

Job 2: Intern

As BLC is looking to grow into a larger organization there are many opportunities and departments we need more minds and hands at. This makes for a unique and exciting opportunity for UC Merced students who want to work at a start-up in Merced and learn the skills to become a successful entrepreneur or teacher.

Internships available in:

• Marketing and Advertising (Creative)
  Administration and book-keeping
• Website development and data management
  (Computer Science)
• General Management - working closely with the
  management (Entrepreneurial)
• Curriculum development (Teaching)

Internships are available on a volunteer basis or through credit through UC Merced. In the past, interns have helped with the development of BLC and in return they have got some valuable experiences. Interns have also been hired on as staff.

Note: BLC also offers internships to high school students who want to fulfill their community service hours through a unique and fulfilling experience.
